The differences between Palliative Care and Hospice Care
About Palliative Care
- Treatment focuses on a chronic medical condition
- Managed by a physician group and covered under traditional insurance

- Care is provided wherever the patient calls home – be that a private residence, Assisted Living Residence or Skilled Nursing Facility
- Addresses the patient’s physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being, is appropriate for patients in all disease stages, and accompanies the patient from diagnosis to cure.
About Hospice Care
- Available to terminally ill patients with a prognosis of 6 months
- Treatment focuses on symptom control and comfort
- Care related to the hospice diagnosis is covered 100% by Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurances, including equipment and medications
- Care is provided wherever the patient calls home – be that a private residence, Assisted Living Residence or Skilled Nursing Facility
- Makes the patient comfortable and prepares the patient and the patient’s family for end-of-life when it is determined treatment for the illness will no longer be pursued
